Protecting Your Intellectual Property
There are several ways to protect your intellectual property. Get a patent, register a copyright, register a trademark, establish and maintain trade secrets. All of these methods require careful consideration of the best mode of protection and then follow up with proper agreements, procedures and management programs. Finally, it may be necessary to file suit against anyone who takes your property.
Lawsuits over intellectual property are often complex and expensive; however, if the property is valuable to you it may be valuable to someone who will try to make money from your ideas, your inventions, your expression, and your secrets. Any property with value must be protected. A business should anticipate the need for such action as lawsuits and plan for that need.
